Research Areas

Our research initiatives are driven by hands-on data science projects with governments, non-profits, and other policy organizations. By addressing policy challenges, we identify areas where existing methods from computer science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or social sciences fall short. We then develop research initiatives to bridge these gaps. The results of our research are integrated into our data science tools, benefiting our projects and partners.

We are currently focused on:

• Addressing and correcting bias and equity issues to promote fairness in data-driven decisions.

• Improving the interpretability and transparency of machine learning models used in policy-making.

• Creating robust methodologies for the experimental validation of machine learning systems.

• Establishing methods for the continuous monitoring and updating of deployed data science systems.
